The €825 quote
Go to Zendesk's own price list (September 2026) and price a five-agent support team. Suite Team is €55 per agent per month, billed yearly. Suite Professional — the tier with the automation most teams actually want — is €115. Copilot, the AI add-on, is another €50 per agent. The popular combination is 5 × (€115 + €50) = €825/month. Call it €9,900 a year for five people answering email.
And the bill grows the moment the business grows. Hire a sixth agent in November: +€165/month, billed yearly, mid-cycle. Slow summer where tickets drop 40%? The invoice doesn't. You are not paying for tickets resolved. You are paying for chairs.
There is a €19 Support Team tier. It is a shared inbox with basic views — the moment you need multiple brands, SLA views or knowledge, you are pushed up. That is not a knock on Zendesk specifically; it is how per-seat software everywhere is designed. The seat is the product. Support work is the pretext.
What a seat actually costs to serve
Here is the uncomfortable engineering fact: serving one more logged-in user costs a SaaS company close to nothing. A row in a database, some edge cache, a rounding error of bandwidth. That is why per-seat margins are enormous — and why the incentive runs backwards. A pricing model that taxes headcount is a pricing model that taxes you for succeeding at the thing the tool is for: customers talking to you, humans helping them.
We wanted the opposite. Charge for work: tickets that move, channels that answer, tokens that read. If the team is busy, we earn more — because the tool did more. If the team is small, the tool should be cheap — not cheap "for now", cheap by construction.
The same month on BootDesk
BootDesk runs on a prepaid wallet of BDK credits. 1 BDK ≈ €0.001, and the menu is public. The real numbers:
- Monthly floor: 12.000 BDK (€10) — covers infrastructure, storage, updates, support
- A teammate with full access: 3.000 BDK/month (about €2.50)
- A connected channel: 1.000 BDK/month (about €1)
- AI tokens: tiered, cheaper per token as you use more
Now price the same five-agent team. Five teammates = 15.000 BDK. Two channels (email + WhatsApp) = 2.000 BDK. Floor 12.000. That is 29.000 BDK — €29 — before a single AI token. A typical working month with the assistant reading threads and drafting replies lands between €75 and €105, because drafts are cheap: reading a full conversation costs a fraction of a cent. Your worst month is not a surprise invoice; it is a meter you can watch in the app.
The five-agent team that pays €825 elsewhere pays roughly €75 here for the same coverage — with an assistant included, not a €50/agent add-on.
Why there is a floor at all
Honesty section. We tried to imagine a floor of zero and it made the product worse: either we metered basic infrastructure (storage, backups, the fact that your tenant exists) and nickel-and-dimed you, or we lied about costs elsewhere. The floor is the infrastructure line item, priced at what it actually costs us to keep your tenant fast and backed up. Everything above the floor tracks work.
One more line on that invoice: VAT. Menu prices are net. Tax is added as its own line at the legal rate, and EU-registered businesses get reverse charge where eligible. No "the price was plus tax" games.
