Calendar, mail, and drive aren't walls — they're protocols. BootDesk is built on CalDAV, WebDAV, SMTP/IMAP, and DNS records you hold yourself, with document editing over WOPI. Bring the client you want; the server is the part that changed.
An inbox is not a feature of the Google app. An inbox is IMAP on your domain.

The technical questions
Isn't this just IMAP?
IMAP is the inbox half. The whole stack is CalDAV for calendar, WebDAV for files, IMAP IDLE for push delivery, and WOPI for editing. Each is a well-trodden protocol, none is proprietary.
Can I keep the client I use today?
Yes. If it speaks IMAP, CalDAV, or WebDAV, it connects. What changes is the server address, not the app in your dock.
Do I have to use BootDesk's shared Collabora to edit documents?
No. Point at your own WOPI server in settings and host your own Collabora. The shared instance is a convenience, not a requirement.
What do I lose moving off Google/M365?
The long tail and the invisible ops Google absorbs. You gain ownership of DNS, exportability, and no exit penalty — which is the point of the trade.
